PAPHOS municipality is running a spring competition, to find the most beautiful garden in Paphos and are asking participants to send in photos of their gardens.

A spokesman from Paphos municipality said: “We would like people to pick their best photo of their garden, and showcase their talent for gardening and love of green and nature. Prizes are a cruise, an air ticket to Athens and a voucher from a nursery.”

The competition is open to people residing within the municipal boundaries of Paphos and participants should send one digital photograph of their garden to cultural.service@pafos.org.cy with their name, address where the garden is, the subject of the photo and a contact phone, he said. This should be done until May 10.

“From May 10 to May 17, all of the photos will be posted on the Paphos Municipality Facebook, without the name of the sender, so that the public can vote for the best,” he said.

Following this, from May18 to May 23, the ten photos with the most likes will be picked and will remain on the municipality Facebook page for the public to vote for the best among them.

A special jury will then conduct site visits to each of the 10 finalist gardens individually, between May 24 and May 27, to ascertain the authenticity of the photos and form their own view of the competing site.

According to the spokesman, the Jury for the evaluation of the ten photographs will be composed of: George Sofokleous, President of the Paphos municipality committee of green areas, a representative of Nature lovers of Paphos Cultural Group, also, Julia Georgie, as Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at Neapolis University, will be a judge, along with, Christos Christou, the chief municipal inspector of health, and Aristotelis Demetriou, Chairman of the Paphos chamber of Fine Art.

Subsequently, the results of the visit and the result from Facebook will be added up (40 per cent will count the ‘likes’ on Facebook and 60 per cent the jury score), this will result in the top three places.

The first prize will be a cruise to the Greek islands, the second a plane ticket for Athens, and the third a voucher from the nursery.

The three winners of the competition will be announced and awards will be presented, after the Anthesteria Flower Parade, which will take place on Sunday, May 29 at Poseidonos Avenue in Kato Paphos.
