A chocolate shop may not be the first place that springs to mind when thinking about enjoying a coffee and a cake but a must to visit in Paphos is Joulietta Chocolatier. Set back off a road in the heart of Paphos, Joulietta’s chocolate shop and café is an indulgence.

If you love chocolate you will love this venue. As you open the door, a wall of chocolate hits your senses and leaves your taste buds ready for action.

When not serving customers, Joulietta can be seen behind a glass wall in her immaculately kept kitchen, creating a wide selection of deliciously moreish treats.
Joulietta set about developing a line of luxury artisan chocolates with the taste of Cyprus. She expanded her products to include cakes and pastries and uses locally sourced herbs, fruits and liqueurs found on the island.

The shop is not large, but is very inviting and sumptuous. Inside, a small bar to the right has a few stools on which to perch and enjoy a coffee while admiring the chocolates and cakes on display. You can also watch the chocolatier at work, creating all of her products from scratch.

As the warmer months are now here, there are also tables and chairs set outside the front of the shop at which to sit and enjoy a hot coffee, served in a French press (or cafetière), a hot chocolate or a selection of heavenly chocolate milk shake concoctions – for those who want something cooling and refreshing and lighter than the usual milk shake which is made with ice cream, she also serves a selection of chocolate milk shakes made with sorbets.

Chocolates galore gleam invitingly from the display case and as with everything else she makes, are created using only quality, fresh and natural ingredients. Her selection of chocolates and truffles are a must to try and popular choices include, fig and ouzo, baileys, blonde chocolate (a personal favourite), honey and lemon infused with coriander encased in white chocolate, Zivania truffle, mint chocolate, fresh orange truffle – the list goes on.

Coffee is priced at €3 and each cafeteria holds two cups. Chocolate drinks cost €3.50. These can be accompanied by all sorts of cakes and tortes, which she serves in slices, speciality scones, such as white chocolate and cranberry, raisin and dark chocolate, orange and chocolate and sultana scones. They are large in size, served with butter and priced at €2.

Joulietta can also make to order where necessary, such as gluten free or for other allergies or intolerances, if contacted ahead of time.
