Paphos municipality’s social welfare department has put out an open call for charities, volunteers and NGOs to take part in a Christmas street fair.
A spokesman for the department said that would-be participants should contact the municipality to express an interest in creating Christmas tables selling handmade crafts and sweets and cookies to raise funds for an upcoming event.
The event is part of the town’s official Christmas celebrations.
“We will give them a table for free and they can set up their Christmas wares and raise money for their charities or causes,” said the spokesman.
The event will take place in the centre of Paphos old town on Makarios Avenue on Sunday December 17 and will be the culmination of a morning of activities.
“Our Merry- thon will start at 10am from Kennedy square and will include Zumba and new craze, ‘pound’ keep fit. Free Santa hats will be given to the first four hundred participants and they will be walking and dancing to music around the streets of the old town, led by gym teacher, Ermolia Pelopida,” he said.
At 11am the Santa hat procession will arrive at Kennedy square and Makarios Avenue where there will be numerous activities for children to take part in at the Love Feast. These include face painting, bouncy castles, and toy horses on wheels, as well as stilt walkers and magic shows.
“They will also be given supplies to make Christmas decorations to take home with them if they wish,” she said.
